In this video, Matt is specifically talking about the importance of using alt tags for image searches. However, it is out belief that it is equally important for web search. A search engine spyder can not read an image. However, it can read the text in the alt tag. So, if you are using descriptive alt tags for your image, you are giving the search engine something else to read on your site.
